After all this time, I finally bought the "final" SimCity upgrades available to me at the last sale. But, there are still some addons that were limited promotional items that are no longer available to those of us who weren't able to get them back in the day. There are some that are no longer available in any way, but the game still checks for them. This is probably one of the biggest reasons that users can't claim abandoned cities, which means the server is cluttered up with a bunch of abandoned cities that can't be claimed because "You don't own all the content needed".
These should be considered for addition to their relative expansions or the base game. For instance, I pre-ordered SimCity 2013 from Amazon back when it launched, in order to get the Heroes and Villians set. That was the only place you could get it at the time, but it was added to the game's digital deluxe version a year or so later. Plumbob Park was added to the base game and now everyone has it.
These are the promos that I would like to see available. If anyone knows of any others not in this list, please reply and I will update.
Launch Arcology - This was available with the Cities of Tomorrow expansion, but only for those that pre-ordered it through Origin. I bought CoT, but didn't pre-order it. There is no way to get it now. It really should be added/enabled for all users of CoT after all this time.
Progressive Insurance - This was free, but for a limited time and unavailable today
Crest/Oral-B Promo - This was available only through a sticker promo code on certain Crest/Oral-B packages. I am not certain, but I *think* this is now unavailable. I remember spending days searching for these elusive packages back in the day, and couldn't find one anywhere in my town. If I remember correctly, I got a family member to purchase some toothpaste in Detroit and email me the promo code so I could get the tourist attractions:
- World's Largest Ball of Twine
- Giant Garden Gnome
- Dolly the Dinosaur
- Llarry the Llama
- MaxisMan Statue
Country-specific DLC's - only available if you lived in that particular country (or used a proxy to get into the game and look like you were in that country). I don't even know what these are or if they're still available in those countries, I just know that they existed:
- Media Markt: Germany
- Telia: Sweden
- Play: Poland
- Metro: France
- Micromania: France
Of course, I would prefer these all be added as free downloads or additional bonuses for the game like the Nissan Leaf addon, but I would even appreciate the chance to purchase a collection of long-lost promotional items for a nominal price, similar (but cheaper) to the Red Cross promo ($10 for that - really!?).
None of these are new features, it shouldn't take any dev time other than to put together a script to turn on the switches. It would increase goodwill and unclutter the server's abandoned cities. It's a win-win! So, what do you say, EA?
